Fly Control |
|
| |
| The Problem |
| The general public's opinion
of flies is they are dirty insects with rather distasteful habits
and this is generally correct. Flies feed on a range of foods
ranging from rotting meat and vegetable matter to fermenting
milk and beer. They therefore contaminate anything on which
they land - including food and food preparation areas. Most
common flies as pests are Cluster, House, Blow and Fruit flies. |

|
| The Solution |
|
Flies are found wherever
there are suitable breeding conditions - usually the decaying/fermenting
of organic matter. These conditions can be reduced both in
the home/work place with good hygiene and a good cleaning
program. Fly proofing is essential in factories or anywhere
food could be contaminated and this is best done by applying
fly screens to windows and also by applying plastic or chain
link screens to doors. Electric fly killers are very effective,
if sited correctly, but they need to be maintained. Large
infestations of flies can be controlled using residual sprays
and knock down insecticides. |
