| Cockroach

|
| The Problem |
|
Cockroaches are frequently associated
with heated buildings such as restaurants, hotels, hospitals,
prisons and housing estates; they can also be found near drains,
dustbins and refuse tips and can survive outside but will
not breed at under 10°C. Cockroaches are known to carry
a wide range of disease (particularly the German Cockroach)
and have a habit of feeding on putrefying foods and drinking
from unsavoury water supplies. They then walk over food preparation
areas and food whilst foraging. |

|
| The Solution |
|
|
The main two species of cockroach are
the German and the Oriental Cockroach and it is essential
that proper identification is made before treatment begins.
This is done by catching them on insect monitors.
|
|
|
| |
|
|
| Thoroughness of treatment is all important.
Areas can be sprayed using a residual spray or dust but re-applications
may be necessary, especially in hot and greasy conditions. Oriental
Cockroach eggs can take up to 12 weeks to hatch and this could
cause re-infestation after treatment is completed. Gel baits
can be very effective as long as there is not too much of an
alternative food source for them. |
